Best SEO Tips of 2014

It is the end of the year, and that means you are going to see a lot of “best of” blog posts. Well here are the best SEO tips for improving website ranking. While this is an ever changing industry. Some practices are a little more timeless than others. Here are some of the things you may have learned to rely on during the past year.

Keyword Analysis Shortcuts

The best tool available for keyword analysis right now is Google’s Keyword Planner. First of all, it is free, which is something we love to hear when it comes to productivity tools. Second, one of the best features is that it allows you to see how competitive each keyword is. By going after keywords that have a high volume of monthly searches but are not yet highly competitive, you can find a niche keyword that drives extra traffic to your site. Remember that no one searches for just a single word, so you need to find a phrase that works for attracting the right audience to your site. Make sure that the keywords are relevant, so that once people get to your site, they do not find themselves wondering, “Why am I here?”

Optimizing Webpages for SEO

Optimizing webpage content is the main way that you boost your search engine ranking. More example, you need to keep the articles fairly short (people don’t read much anymore), and make sure that the title clearly states what the article is about (while being keyword friendly). Try to keep the title under 65 characters if at all possible. Make sure the meta description is well written so that Google knows what the article is about. Don’t stuff so many keywords into your content that it gets flagged by the Google algorithm. Make sure that the keyword gets used in both the title and the first paragraph. It is also good to repeat keywords used in headings in the first sentence or two of the content after the heading.

Take Your SEO Off-Page

What do we mean by off-page SEO? Basically, this is SEO that occurs anywhere but in the content of your site. For example, you can use your company’s social media accounts to drive more traffic to the site. Also, link building still works. Make sure that you produce high-quality and authoritative content, and those backlinks will come about naturally.
